A few years ago I decided to purposefully seek God for one word to be my focus and direction for the upcoming new year. These are always meaningful words that end up being part of my story as I walk through the year. These words weave into the fabric of my story, offering guidance and reflection.
In a world filled with constant noise and complexity, the idea of simplifying seems to be a beacon of tranquility and focus. As we step into the promising realms of 2024, my one word that will guide my journey throughout the year: “Simplify.”
Hmmmm… amidst the challenges of deadlines, obligations, and the constant clamor of life, “Simplify” emerges. Hopefully to help me learn to be more calm and focused. Transcending the mere act of decluttering physical spaces; it’s a holistic embrace of a minimalist lifestyle, valuing quality over quantity and intentional living over mindless consumption.

In the face of my daily relentless to-do lists and the urgency of tasks, “Simplify” prompts me to discern between the urgent and the necessary. Encouraging me to streamline my priorities, letting go of the unnecessary to create a life centered around what truly matters: God, family and friends.
The dictionary defines “Simplify” as making things easier, uncomplicating, streamlining, and reducing to essentials. Today, it means pausing my to-do list to savor the joy of watching my grandbabies play, reevaluating self-expectations, and taking a deep breath to distinguish between the urgent and the necessary.
From material possessions to the information I consume, “Simplify” will remind and lead me toward mindful choices aligned with my values. It’s a deliberate step away from excesses that clutter my mind and life, helping to better foster clarity and purpose.
For me, as a Christian, simplifying is not just about responding to the chaotic world; it’s about the central issue of obedience to God. It’s a call to live a life centered on loving God and people, navigating complexity with a singular focus on following Christ.
“Simplify” extends its invitation to find balance—a delicate balance between work and leisure, productivity and rest. It empowers me to say ‘no’ to the unnecessary, creating space for a more fulfilling ‘yes’ to things that truly matter.
As I embark on the journey of simplification in 2024, I anticipate not just a decluttered physical space but a profound sense of peace, purpose, and fulfillment. Through intentional choices and a commitment to simplicity, I hope to craft a life that is both meaningful and authentic.
With anticipation of the Lord’s leading, I look forward to seeking His guidance for a year where less becomes more, and the essence of life shines through beautifully uncomplicated moments. May “Simplify” grant me more space to love God and love people wholeheartedly.

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances… I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:11-13).
